1
VCE-specific skills
VCE is not just about learning content and terminology, it's about learning how to respond to specific command terms (or task words) from the Victorian Curriculum.
These are often introduced well before students undertake VCE, but their importance is often overlooked and in later years of schooling, there is insufficient time in classes to focus on developing these crucial skills in addition to subject-specific knowledge.
2
Subject-specific knowlege
Students are individuals with diverse wants and needs. Some look for relevance to future careers, others follow passions or seek to challenge themselves.
A deep understanding of any subject is gained through more than class attendance and rote learning.
It is crucial to explore varying degrees of complexity, reinforce classwork, and strengthen the links between learning and assessment.
3
Crafting real value
Students do not necessarily link their learning experience with life outside the classroom.
There are real-world applications in all subjects and making these connections helps develop critical thinking and intrinsic motivation.
Learning is more than putting pen to paper; connection creates value.
My philosophy
The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is a well-established system, assessing students on their ability to apply key knowledge and skills across a range of subjects.
Like anything, the system has its imperfections. The education system faces challenges including (but not limited to) class size, equity, adequate staffing, and limitations in catering to diverse student needs. These challenges mean that students and their educators often struggle to achieve desired outcomes.
I aim to ensure students undertaking VCE are equipped to address the specific skills they need to engage with and enjoy their learning, which leads to enhanced academic outcomes and improved wellbeing.
Crafted education means that I work out specific needs and formulate personalised strategies using a range of exploratory questions to inform my approach. I aim to create value by bringing student learning to life.
